Life at Sedgwick CMS as a College Recruit
The College Summer Internship Program at Sedgwick CMS is designed to provide practical training for upper level college students who have potential interest in a long term career in claims management. The goal of the internship is to provide a legitimate learning experience for the student through a challenging involvement with a specific claims function. Applications are solicited beginning in March for a 10 -12 week internship to begin in May or June each year. Students participating in a summer internship for Sedgwick CMS will gain valuable real life experience in a fast paced claims environment or in a business support function. Working along side seasoned professionals, our interns will be given the responsibility and autonomy to impact claims management or other business decisions while experiencing the flow of everyday activity in a professional business setting. Each office or department within Sedgwick CMS that requests an intern must provide a detailed project proposal that includes not only the principal activities but the learning objectives as well.

For the claims professional trainee, the Industry Advancement Program (IAP) is designed to provide an entry point for recent college graduates eager to begin a career in claims management. Trainees participate in a rigorous 3 to 4 week classroom “Claims College” program in workers’ compensation, disability or liability claims services designed and delivered by our Sedgwick CMS University. Upon successful graduation from Claims College, trainees return to their sponsoring office for an additional 3 to 4 months of mentored, on-the-job training. A specific fast-track career advancement plan is put into action for all successful claims professional trainees as they work their way through the rigors of the Industry Advancement Program. Knowledge, skills, and a great attitude can vault claims professional trainees into a long term career in an outstanding industry.

"During my internship at Sedgwick CMS, I learned a lot about workers’ compensation, the insurance industry and what third party administrators are all about. I learned about the JURIS® system and became quite effective at using it to complete my duties. It felt great to be able to help the examiners. I really felt like I was contributing. This internship contributed greatly to my personal development because I had to work to complete tasks independently from start to finish. I felt real responsibility for my projects, but I also knew everyone in the office was more than willing to answer my questions and assist me when I needed help."
