BWC Eligibility Requirements

To participate in a group rating program, the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) requires the following:

• All employers must be included on a group roster and all forms filed with the BWC by 4:45 pm on the last business day in February. The BWC will not accept any group rating applications or additions to the rosters after 4:45 pm on the last business day in February.
  
  
• The employer must have an "active status" (meaning premium payments are current) as of the group rating application deadline and remain active/current until the start of the July 1 rating year.
  
  
• The employer cannot have lapses in coverage totaling more than 59 days for the 18-month period prior to the application deadline. A lapse in coverage occurs whenever a premium payment is not received by the BWC due date.
  
  
• The employer must maintain an account in good standing with the BWC. There can be no undisputed balances with the BWC that are more than 45 days past due as of the application deadline. All partial payment plans must also be current in accordance with the payment schedule established.
  
  
• The employer cannot enroll in more than one group plan each policy year.
  
  
• All employers within the group must be members of the sponsoring association.
  
  
• Employers within a group must be similar in nature (part of the same industry group) as defined by the BWC.
