A finely crafted instrument can mean the difference between a good show and a brilliant performance. At Sedgwick CMS, the exceptional instrument that distinguishes us from all other third party administrators is JURIS®, a customer-driven, state-of-the-art information management and delivery system that is the most flexible, efficient and user-friendly claims management technology in the industry today. JURIS® is a classic illustration of the cutting-edge technology that has earned Sedgwick CMS a reputation as the premier provider of claims management services. Our exclusive JURIS® software system centralizes every detail of every client’s every claim in a single database. JURIS® streamlines and simplifies the claims management process, giving our examiners the time and capability to do what they do best: personally address clients’ needs and efficiently manage their claims.
For clients, the real beauty of JURIS® is access—easy, immediate online retrieval of detailed, real-time claims information they can use to better analyze and reduce risks and control costs. That data is available to clients 24/7 via Sedgwick CMS’ own viaOne, a comprehensive suite of Web-based tools that lets clients enter, track and analyze any and all of their companies’ claims information.
Many of the world’s most successful and prestigious companies rely on Sedgwick CMS for outstanding performance in providing innovative, costeffective claims management solutions. JURIS® and viaOne® are the instruments that help us showcase our capabilities.

Security
A major challenge of maintaining a database as sophisticated as JURIS® is information protection. Here are some of the features that help ensure the security of your data:
Advanced password security – Each password is encrypted and e-mailed by the JURIS® Security Team directly to users. Limited access – Functional access to data is controlled at the user level, extending down to specific fields in JURIS®. Automatic time-out – Users are required to re-enter their password after 30 minutes of inactivity, preventing unauthorized people from accessing the system from an idle work station.
Screens and Features
Sedgwick CMS clients can feel confident that their claims are being handled as efficiently and as accurately as possible because JURIS®, with menus, toolbars and help features similar to Microsoft Windows® products, is simple to use, thus reducing the possibility of human error. A few examples are:
Client Service Instructions – Each of our clients has distinct needs, and by checking the Client Service Instructions, an examiner can review the requirements a client has. All instructions are stored in JURIS®, giving examiners instant access to this important information.
Client-Specific Reserves and Automatic Notification – Sedgwick CMS is dedicated to offering flexible, individualized solutions to our clients’ most important claims management needs. Client-specific reserves and automatic notification in JURIS® allows our clients to guide reserving levels.
Diaries - Diaries are excellent time-management tools that remind our examiners of important tasks and help them efficiently manage claims. With JURIS®’ diary function, clients can make special notes that automatically create diaries for examiners, reminding them of critical tasks. Most essential tasks, however, have auto diary functions, including:
- Claim setup
- Disability payments
- Hospitalization flags
- Litigation issues
- Managed care alerts
- Reserve alerts
- Special fund notices
- Subrogation issues E-mail - All examiners can use the JURIS® system to send e-mail to clients,
claimants and medical or legal providers, while simultaneously recording the e-mail to the claim file.
Financial Summary Screen – This screen provides expanded financial information for an event, claimant or claim, including:
- Cost-to-date figures
- Deductibles
- Incurred totals
- NCCI totals (for workers’ compensation claims)
- Paid totals
- Receivable totals
- Recoveries
- Scheduled payment totals
Medical Bill Review – Using a direct interface between vendors, JURIS® sends and captures medical bill review data, including information such as payment details, service descriptions, procedure codes, methods for calculating fees, provider and vendor contacts, and reasons for review.
Miscellaneous Client Fields – JURIS® helps us customize solutions for all of our customers through miscellaneous client fields that keep track of information specific to them.
Notes – Notes provide comprehensive information about a claim and give users the ability to pinpoint important events in a claim’s history. JURIS® further assists examiners with managing claims by automatically documenting critical activities with system-generated notes or allowing them to enter notes themselves. All notes can be sorted, viewed or printed.
Plan Summary Screen – This screen provides plan, line and coverage information for a claim. It provides details on limits, durations, banking arrangements, deductibles and other specifics.
Search Screens – JURIS® provides several search engines to help users quickly and easily find information. JURIS®’ search capabilities make the user’s job easier and save time.
State Reports and Forms – JURIS® keeps a comprehensive list of state required forms and reports in its database. The process is fully automated to create and send this information.
Time Tracking – For our workers’ compensation and disability clients, JURIS® features a time tracking function to monitor the work statuses of individual claimants while off work or on restricted duty. This function helps users track a claimant’s progress and get the claimant back to work quickly.
The viaOne Suite
The viaOne suite of products gives a comprehensive view of specific claims to our clients through an easily accessible Website. Clients have access to realtime information that is important and specific to them. Armed with that information, they can better manage risks and contain costs. Included in the viaOne suite of products are:
viaOne view – a platform-independent, Web-based application for viewing and analyzing data from JURIS®. ViaOne view streamlines the login and software update process, making access to JURIS® information much easier for users. ViaOne also has the same security features as JURIS® and the viaOne Website is secure, so only authorized people will have access to your data.
viaOne query – a tool used to create standard and ad hoc JURIS® reports. In addition to having more standard reports for output, viaOne query allows users to run multiple reports or extracts for the same criteria – at the same time. Users can request queries based on claims data or payment data from JURIS®.
viaOne OSHA – a tool to help clients with OSHA recordkeeping. The database keeps the employee information needed to maintain accurate OSHA records and makes it easily accessible and well organized. ViaOne OSHA can import new workers’ compensation claims nightly from JURIS®. With this database, cases can be easily examined, recordability determinations can be catalogued, and current OSHA 200 logs or OSHA 300 logs can be printed. This product reduces the effort needed to keep track of OSHA-related data and makes it easy to identify cases that need immediate attention.
viaOne intake – an application used for reporting and collecting claim information. ViaOne intake helps Sedgwick CMS service specialists handle claims quickly and efficiently while controlling claim costs.
viaOne analysis – a data warehouse utility that allows clients to search for and view data stored in the data warehouse. Our data warehouse compiles claims data from various administrators and other non-claim data (such as human resources data) and integrates this assorted data with information collected in JURIS®. It also combines useful risk information from various sources into one database to provide our clients with an accurate, comprehensive view of their claims.
